On December 26th, the Hujiang Economics and Management Forum Series (81th Session) was successfully held at the Lecture Hall on the fourth floor of Building A in the School of Management. The event featured a scholarly presentation titled “Residential Mobility Spatio-temporal Patterns and Influence Mechanism” delivered by Sanqin Mao, a lecturer in the Department of Public Administration. Faculty and students from the School of Management actively participated in the engaging session.
Firstly, Dr. Mao introduced socioeconomic background underlies the unprecedented residential mobility. During past decades China has experienced unprecedented changes under a series of institutional reforms. Because large-scale population mobility induced by urbanization has accelerated urban spatial restructuring, residential differentiation and migrants’ housing problems have become research hotspots. However, Dr. Mao argued that residential mobility as well as its associated consequences were ignored in recent literature. To address the research gap, her study tried to explore such relatively neglected yet important process underlying China’s unprecedented urban transformation. She then elaborated how residential mobility aggravates residential spatial differentiation through the phenomena of school district housing. The result was not only supplement to exist quantitative study, but also gave instructions to urban housing supply, urban resource allocation and residential integration.
In conclusion, Ke Lyu, a lecturer in the Department of Industrial Engineering, offered insightful commentary on the lecture. The event concluded with an engaging discussion among the participants, fostering a deeper understanding of the lecture’s content.
